| When using an enema, liquid is introduced through the anus into the rectum and continues on a path filling the large intestine, to the end at the cecum. Our colons were intended to function as a smooth running system, in order to properly flush digested waste from the body. | |

| Your colon (large intestine) is made up of four main
sections: (1) ascending, (2) transverse,
(3) descending
colon, (4) sigmoid & the rectum. It's total
length is approximately 5 to 5 ½ feet and it ends at the anus where feces eliminated from
the body. The small intestine length is approx. 26 ft. long. They are called large and small not because of their length but because of their width & diameter. It is divided into five major segments. The rectum is the last segment before the anus. The ascending and descending colon are supported by peritoneal folds called mesentery. |
